CSA have developed a reputation for the design and renovation of large, high quality houses. This is a good example of the practice’s skill in working with these houses. Constructed circa 1907 in an Arts and Crafts style the house was not the best example of its kind. CSA were appointed to renovate and extend the house so that it would be more appropriate to its setting while maintaining and enhancing its Arts and Crafts style. Living accommodation is provided over four floors including and extensive basement, the entire house extending to approximately 1300 sq.m. The house is richly detailed, employing red sandstone window dressings, copper roofs, bronze windows, parquet floors, French polished panelling and ornate cornices. The clients’ wish was to create a house which, though large, would provide a warm and intimate home for their family and which both internally and externally would look like an original turn-of-the–century house. We believe that this has been successfully achieved.
