House at Terenure

Built in the ‘50’s this house in Terenure shows the late influence of the German ‘Bauhaus’ style with its curved glass corners, horizontal window fenestration and brick parapets. Our clients wished to maintain this style in the new side and rear extensions to the house. Typically we went to considerable lengths to ensure that the fenestration to the new double glazed curved windows to the front elevation, undertaken by a specialist joinery, adequately reflected the original steel windows still evident in a number of houses in the area. The work to the interior of the house was extensive including a complete re-organisation of the floor plans, the provision of a new roof and the introduction of air-tightness measures and high levels of insulation throughout the existing house and extensions. The house is set in a beautifully landscaped rear garden.
